This breakthrough chair was designed to use the minimum materials possible so that the entire structure is derived from a single piece of plastic. It accomplishes this while still maintaining the strength and durability to hold your body weight comfortably. The chair’s inception came when a German chemical company, BASF, invited the famed designer to create a new product from Ultradur® High Speed, an advanced plastic typically used in automobile design.

The light yet durable qualities of the chair were no accident. The chair was the fruit of an ambitious design and rigorous testing. Months of intense scrutiny using imaging software and cutting edge programs led to the chair's design. Once the design was settled upon, creating a real structure based on the dimensions was another task entirely. The BASF experimented with fifteen different workable formulas before arriving at the perfect one for this precise molding for the MYTO Cantilever Chair. The chair's first production models were unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair in April of 2008 to rave reviews.
